My 24th Birthday reminded me to always keep my spirit open to God’s limitless Blessings. If you happen to read Mama Said Don’t Talk To Strangers then you know how God blessed my sister and I during our trip to Mexico through a random stranger  we met named Pedro.

Pedro was one of our servers I met my first night in Mexico and genuinely inquired if we needed anyone to show us around Mexico. He barely spoke English , so their was a huge language barrier that we were excited to overcome by learning as much Spanish from Pedro as possible.

Just from his spirit , we knew he had no bad intentions,  “well honestly we were hoping that he didn’t.” LOL

The next day we met Pedro right back at lounge he worked at and we told him where we wanted to go and he started leading us there.

He showed us how to ride the train, pay for our train-fare , and move safely around the street of Mexico. We went everywhere with Pedro…

Where ever  we  would ask him to take us, he took us there until he had to go to work at 6pm.

He even took us to his mothers house where his family embraced us and offered us drinks just like how we culturally do in Africa.Funny enough we weren’t even afraid to  walk into the slums of Mexico city .

I will never forget when Pedro looked at me and asked ” how do you say I am poor in English?” . He didn’t want us to be uncomfortable walking into the slums of Mexico City at night , but we trusted in  him. Coming from an African narrative we were use to visiting some loved ones in very humble conditions . We were more so just touched  by him trying to convey his social status ,on his mothers side to us in English.

For my birthday , I had told him all I wanted to do was climb the Aztec Pyramids in Teotihuacan which was an hour away from where we were staying in mexico city and an hour and thirty minutes away from Pedro’s mother house.  Yet, Pedro did not care about the distance and that he did not have a care, he wanted to make sure I was happy on my birthday .

So on the morning of my 24th birthday , Pedro took us to his father house in the country to get a car for us to take to the Pyramids.Along the way to his fathers house in the Taxi, he proudly told of  how beautiful his fathers house was. When we finally  arrived , his father welcomed us with open arms to his beautiful home with a huge photo of Pedro’s graduation hanging on his living room wall. You could see the pride he had for his son in his eyes.

C_6aX6JvAs we sat there and waited for Pedro and his father to get everything together for our trip to mexico. In true American style we grew impatient and went outside to see what was taking so long, little did we know that Pedro and his father were building a car from starch for us to drive.

We had no idea that Pedro and his father were out there building a car from scratch for us . We were and still are in complete disbelief by  everything Pedro did for us while we were in Mexico. Something we cant even share on our blog because those are memories so dear that we want to keep them pure.

Nevertheless,  my 24th birthday taught me that life can change for you in just 24 hours. I wanted to share this personal story to encourage you to trust your gut and take a chance on God when you meet strangers. You just never know if there is a Pedro somewhere out there waiting to change your life . Trust that  God will protect you and introduce you to the right people that will take you where you need to be in life , sometimes more than your actual ” friends” .

With Love,

Angel
