Chia, California was a weird experience for us. From the moment we landed in the LAX airport we felt as if we had entered a new country. Everything from the buildings to the roads were huge; parallel to size of the billboards and residents dreams.
From our very first encounter, we instantly felt overwhelmed by the enormousness of everything,yet some aspects about downtown LA felt familiar. Day by day each of our experiences in Los Angeles California reminded us of our last sister trip to Mexico .
During our stay in Los Angeles , we rented a spot in down town LA . The atmosphere was almost identical to Mexico City , the culture, the vibe, the people and especially the food ( tacos galore ) LOL. Everything had that Mexico City vibe expect for the excess amount of homelessness. Homeless people and the smell of pee filled the streets of downtown LA, and endless amounts of dogs. It felt like everyone had a dog, even the homeless.
We were shocked by how integrated into the community the homeless people were in Downtown LA. It was almost as if they weren’t homeless, they just happen to live outside for free. Funny enough, most people seemed to show them brotherly-love just as long as they weren’t being crazy or belligerent .
For the most part everything seemed to have a chill vibe to it, the kind of vibe we experienced in Jamaica; the ” no worries man, everything’s going to be alright” ” type of vibe . No one seemed to be really in a rush, even if they were.It was just a different type of place . A land of it’s own , filled with dreamers , hard workers, visionaries , and people who wanted to be stars in their own right .
A lot of the people in downtown LA we met seemed to not be California natives. Each personwe met seemed to have a background story that went something like this…
” Yeah I’m from _________ but I moved out here ______ years ago to pursue my dream in _______ but I’m currently working out here doing _______ in the mean time until I become a _________!”
Follow by a bunch of justified reasons why California is all worth all the struggle like :
* Endless opportunities
* Good vibes
* The beach
* The weather
* The scenery
* The good people
Etc etc ….
As if they all made a secret pledge to never give up on California or their dreams the day they stepped off the plane at LAX . Some sort of loyalty contract each of them had to sign as a requirement before they picked up their luggage.
To us, LA seemed to be a land that capitalized by the American Dream .
The ” pursuit ” of happiness , the chance of maybe one day making it, in the hopes of meeting the right person that will possibly provide the right opportunity.
Happiness is not promised in LA but the “pursuit” is guaranteed .
You have to be willing to network and get your foot out there in a state that is bigger than many countries .
To all those who have traveled to LA to follow their heart, we wish you the best. You inspire us to remember that life is short and either you can wait around for years and make excuses or you can get up , pack you things and pursue your dreams.
Los Angeles has inspired us to laugh louder, work harder, and dream bigger, because while you are sleeping others are out their chasing their destiny’s .
